REDS:
Chateau Cos D'Estournel, St Estephe
$589 per bottle ($6672 unbroken case) LESS THAT 12 REMAINING
The 2009 Cos d’Estournel is one of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted ... in the world! An extraordinary effort I tasted on two separate occasions, this blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest primarily Merlot with a dollop of Cabernet Franc has a whopping 14.5% alcohol, but a remarkably normal pH of 3.69. Kudos to Jean-Guillaume Prats and owner Michel Reybier for this amazing wine made from yields of 33 hectoliters per hectare. It will be a legendary claret that should last for 50-60 years. A black/purple color is accompanied by aromas of graphite, ink, creme de cassis, blackberries, cedar, and incense. Full-bodied and unctuously textured, with an ethereal personality, tons of nuances, and a burgeoning complexity, it is an enormously well-endowed, fresh, perfectly balanced tour de force in winemaking. As mentioned above, it should drink well for 50-60 years. This wine possesses this vintage’s classic characteristics of enormous power, massive fruit, and extraordinary freshness and precision - largely unprecedented, particularly for Cabernet-based wines in the Medoc. (Tasted two times.) 98-100* Robert Parker
Superb black red, very full and spicy, very broadly structured, really quite massive (14.5abv) and will take years to pick up finesse, a 'baroque' almost Porty wine, explosively rich and definitely impressive if not a typical Saint-Estèphe. Drink 2018-40. 18.5 points ***** Decanter

Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste, Pauillac
$143 per bottle ($1512 unbroken case)
Lovely nose of sweet currant and blueberry that follows through to a full body, with juicy, velvety tannins and a licorice, tar and dark chocolate finish. Like it. The new 1982? 94-97 Wine Spectator
Black red, big, smoky, almost leathery fruit, really great purity and intensity of flavour and great freshness and depth, with the tannins perfectly absorbed. Drink 2016-35. 18 Decanter
I was surprised that this wine was not more concentrated given the overall character of the vintage, and I would rate it behind the 2005, 2000, 1990, and 1982. Nevertheless, it boasts this estate’s classic creme de cassis character as well as a soft, round, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, pure fruit, and silky tannins, but not the weight, depth, or profound concentration of the top 2009 Pauillacs. Still, this cuvee will be approachable young, and should evolve easily for two decades. 91-93 Robert Parker

Chateau Leoville-Las-Cases, Saint Julien
$599 per bottle ($1248 unbroken case) LESS THAT 12 REMAINING
Dark crimson. Purple rim. Very sweet indeed on the nose – unusually so for St-Julien. Glamorous and luscious with a hint of ink and freshness. Lots to enjoy! The tannins are very well handled and it’s pure pleasure. Maybe lacks just a hint of freshness. 17 Jancis Robinson
A slightly lighter, less powerful style of St.-Julien, but also less oaky than previous vintages have tended to be, the 2009 Lagrange offers attractive, fresh, red and black currant notes, and an elegant as well as corpulent attack and mid-palate. This wine does not have the weight of the “big boys” of St.-Julien, but it displays an endearing finesse, freshness, and purity. It is by no means a wimpish, understated wine, but in the context of the 2009 vintage, it is somewhat overwhelmed by many of its neighbors. Enjoy it over the next two decades. (Tasted two times.) 90-93 Robert Parker

Chateau Clos La Madeleine, Saint Emilion
$62 per bottle ($696 unbroken case) LESS THAT 12 REMAINING
A major sleeper of the vintage, this estate, which is sandwiched between the famous premier grand cru classes of St.-Emilion, Magdelaine and Belair (now known as Belair-Monange), is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Unfortunately, production is only 700-800 cases from this 6-acre property. Hubert de Bouard made this cuvee. The wine’s exuberant minerality showcases the fabulous limestone soils. Bouard’s Midas touch is evident in its rich, concentrated, jammy blackberry and black cherry, licorice, and incense-filled aromatic and flavor profiles. Full-bodied and opulent, this big-time sleeper of the vintage should drink well for 20+ years. 92-95 Robert Parker
Soapy floral nose. Very luscious, glass-coating fruit. Pretty dramatic without being over the top. Crunchy, juicy fruit. Quite charming yet with fine tannins underneath. Nice wine, even if not for the very long term. 16.5/20 Jancis Robinson MW
$62 per bottle
Chateau Prieure Lichine, Margaux
$89 per bottle ($972 unbroken case) LESS THAT 12 REMAINING
Complex aromas of mineral, blueberry and currant follow through to a full body, with superfine tannins and a long, long finish. This is exceptional. Best of all time. 94-97 Wine Spectator
Deep red, fine floral wild roses Margaux nose, very good ripe fruit and harmonious Cabernet-Merlot blend, quite forward, attractive fleshy fruit and will age well. Drink 2014-20. 17 Decanter
Beautiful floral-infused black fruits jump from the glass of this opaque ruby/purple-colored wine. Possibly richer, denser, and even more complete than the brilliant 2005 (although it is still too early to say that definitively), this is certainly a more opulent, succulent style of wine than even the 2005, which had surprising flesh for a wine from that vintage. The Right Bank consultant Stephane Derenoncourt has performed some magic here, as recent vintages attest, and the wines are often fairly priced as well. 91- This full-bodied Prieure-Lichine should drink well for 20-25 years. 93 Robert Parker
$89 per bottle
Chateau Ferriere, Margaux
$62 per bottle ($684 unbroken case) LESS THAT 12 REMAINING
“Blueberry and mineral aromas. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a beautiful sandalwood, floral, berry aftertaste. Very polished young red.” 90-93 Wine Spectator
“Fine dense red, quite lifted, fragrant berry fruit, good concentration and extraction all in an elegant Margaux style, supple with an attractively firm finish. Drink 2014-20.” 16+ Decanter
$62 per bottle
Chateau Latour, Pauillac
$1540 per bottle ($18480 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
The 2009 Latour has off the charts concentration in addition to the highest level of tannin ever measured at the estate. The final blend was somewhat unusual in that it consists of 91.3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8.7% Merlot, and clocked in at 13.7% alcohol (even higher than the 2003). Possibly a 100- year wine, it boasts an inky/black/purple color as well as an extraordinary perfume of super-intense blue and black fruits, graphite, and a liqueur of rocks-like minerality. Enormously full-bodied yet at the same time incredibly fresh, vibrant, and precise, it coats the mouth, and builds incrementally to skyscraper-like texture, and a whopping finish that lasts over a minute. This remarkable wine reveals a certain accessibility already, yet one senses that it will be even richer, more nuanced, and fuller by the time it is bottled in mid-2011. A monumental wine from a monumental vintage in the Medoc, this is our children's children's children's elixir. (Tasted once.) 98 -100 Robert Parker
(91.3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8.7% Merlot) Black red, huge concentration of black fruits and great purity, wonderfully fragrant nose with wild violets and lifted freshness, great length and perfect texture, totally Latour and all the fruit and vineyard will come out over the years. Drink 2018-45. 19.5 ***** Decanter
Chateau Margaux, Margaux
$1410 per bottle ($16920 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
Thirty-five percent of the crop went into the 2009 Chateau Margaux, composed of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The alcohol level of 13.3% is high, but not excessively so. A wine such as this is like the quintessence of terroir. A super, uber-concentrated perfume of creme de cassis and flowers cascades across the palate with a lightness of being despite massive concentration, a sumptuous personality, and an unctuous texture. I have never tasted a Chateau Margaux quite like this. It should be relatively drinkable at an early age, yet will last for 50-100 years. Oh my! (Tasted once.) 98-100 Robert Parker
Very dark crimson. Sumptuous nose – just gorgeous. So fine, so ripe but with lovely freshness too. Margaux finesse. Truly a wonderful nose. The nose is really the thing already. Will it ever be difficult to drink? Breadth across the palate. Just wonderfully relaxed and fresh and beautifully balanced. Soft tannins on the finish, very very long. We debate whether the texture is cashmere or silk. Drink 2018- 2035 19+ Jancis Robinson
Chateau Pontet-Canet, Pauillac
$210 per bottle ($2268 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
It’s no surprise that proprietor Alfred Tesseron has produced a possibly perfect 2009. He’s been on a roll since 1994, and no other producer has done more work in the vineyard than Tesseron, who has moved to 100% bio-dynamic farming, reduced yields drastically, and instituted a draconian selection process. This vineyard, which sits on the high plateau of Pauillac adjacent to Mouton Rothschild, has produced a 2009 of extraordinary intensity and purity. It is outrageously concentrated, with silky tannin (the sweetest I have ever tasted in a Pontet-Canet as well as the highest measured), an opaque purple color, and copious notes of graphite, cassis, licorice, and subtle smoke and forest floor. Full-bodied and unctuously textured with striking purity and definition, it is a wine of colossal weight as well as elegance (in itself a poster boy for this paradox in 2009). This brilliant Pauillac requires a decade of cellaring despite its voluptuous texture. It should evolve for 50-75 years. 97-100 Robert Parker
Very dark crimson. Firm and broad and very lively with real vibrant elderberry nose - there IS a bit of extra vitality in this wine! Very very nice and satisfying indeed. There is life to this and great breadth and depth. Intense richness that seems to come from the fruit rather than from winemaking. Something of Lafite’s complexity and integrity. Plus Mouton’s richness. Dry finish. Very well done. But it is not a wine you want to undertake young – still lots to sort out. Much less open than most. Dense – really quite dry on the end but appetising though very long term. Muscular. 18/20 Jancis Robinson MW
Chateau Bernadotte, Haut Médoc
$40 per bottle ($432 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
"Dense red, good spicy, supple rich fruit, good fleshy length, quite seductive and good tannins to keep it
going. Drink 2013-18." 16+ points Decanter
"The finest La Bernadotte made to date, this 2009 is an undeniable sleeper of the vintage. Composed of
47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, it reveals a dense purple color along
with a big, sweet kiss of black cherries, black currants, charcoal, and spice. With layers of fruit, decent
acidity, freshness, and precision, and an opulent, fleshy, succulent style, it should drink easily for a
decade or more". Robert Parker 90-92
Chateau Belle-Vue, Haut Médoc (Randall’s pick)
$34 per bottle ($378 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
“Dense colour, superb extraction of black berry fruits, fleshy and classy, very ripe, will mature
well and impress. Drink 2013-20.” 16.5 Decanter
“Dark purple. Intense and tarry on the nose. Lots of juice with minerality on the finish. Nice
combo! Real vitality. Drink 2016-2022.” 16.5 Jancis Robinson MW
“Not to be confused with St.-Emilion’s Bellevue, this has been one of the most consistent Medoc cru bourgeois over a number of years, and the 2009 may reach new quality heights. A big-time
sleeper of the vintage, this blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 20% Petit
Verdot boasts a dense purple color as well as notes of creme de cassis and spring flowers,
terrific fruit, sweet but noticeable tannin, and medium to full body. It can be drunk young or
cellared for 8-10 years.” 90-92 Robert Parker
“Silky and beautiful, with berry and dark chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied,
polished tannins.” 88-91 Wine Spectator
Chateau Cissac, Haut Médoc (Randall’s pick)
$28 per bottle ($300 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
“Chateau Cissac has to be one of the ALL-TIME best Cabernet Merlot bargains of the World. This Bordeaux estate lies close to Mouton Rothschild and is always reliable, even in the so-called ‘lesser’ vintages (eg. the 2004 is a beautifully fragrant, fruity and impressively balanced red). Since the days when Stuart Anderson (founder of Balgownie Estate) used to import it, Cissac has earned an immense following in Australia. James Halliday still has vintages from the 60’s in his cellar and has stated that he has a soft-spot for the wines even to this day, and, he recently wrote up the 2005 in glowing terms.
We have sold more than 350 cases of vintages from 2000 to 2005, and that many customers cannot be wrong! The 2009 will be an absolute classic to drink from 2011, or to cellar for a decade or more. You simply cannot go wrong buying some of this wine!” Randall Pollard
“Fresh herbs and crushed berries on the nose follow through to a medium body, with light tannins and a fresh finish.” 84-87, Wine Spectator.
“Good grippy fruit, still a bit tough, a structured, classic Médoc. Drink 2014-19.” 15.5 Decanter
Chateau Chasse Spleen, Moulis
$53 per bottle ($576 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
"The 2009 is the finest Chasse Spleen since the 1989. Its deep purple color is accompanied by notes of graphite, black currants, sweet spice, and a hint of Chinese black tea. Full-bodied and opulent with wellintegrated acidity, tannin, wood, and alcohol, it is a lush beauty to enjoy over the next 20+ years." Robert
Parker 90-92.
"Light, delicate Margaux-like scent. Fragrant and easy. A little malted milk tablet on the finish. Nice, gentle, lots of pleasure even if little drama. Just slight astringency on the finish." Jancis Robinson MW
16.5/20.
Chateau La Dominique, Saint Emilion
$82 per bottle ($936 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
The greatest La Dominique since the 1989 and 1990, the 2009 was fashioned by the brilliant duo of Jean-Philippe Fort (Michel Rolland’s top lieutenant) and Jean-Luc Thunevin (the bad boy of St.-Emilion). Made from 100% Merlot (which must be a “first” for this estate), and with 14.3% alcohol, this will be a thrilling wine to drink over the next 20-25 years. Dense purple-hued with loads of black raspberries, black cherries, truffles, earth, and spice, it is an opulent, viscous effort with extraordinary intensity, purity, and richness, and a superb finish of nearly 45 seconds. It will be drinkable young, yet is capable of lasting a long time. Bravo! P.S. It is good to see this 58-acre vineyard return to form after a somewhat listless period of performances. 92-94 Robert Parker
Even darker crimson than most. Interesting, quite subtle nose. Then great sweetness on the palate and considerable dryness on the finish. A quite extreme wine that is absolutely on the edge for me as to whether it will all settle down or not. I hereby give it the benefit of the doubt as obviously the makers have taken real risks on ripeness. Some mineral savour. Muscular chewiness. Pretty glamorous and certainly extreme. 17,5/20 Jancis Robinson MW
Chateau Coufran, Haut Médoc
$36 per bottle ($396 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
“Fine dense red, nicely concentrated black cherry fruit, good fleshy, succulent, briary ripeness, quite classy finish and good length. Drink 2014-20.” 16 points. Decanter
“This Merlot-dominated wine displays a dense ruby/purple color, soft berry fruit intermixed with mocha, and hints of white chocolate, herbs, and spice. It should drink well for up to a decade or more. “ 87-88, Robert Parker.
Chateau Du Tertre, Margaux
$64 per bottle ($720 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
"Lightly treacly nose. Interesting. Very different sort of nose. The fruit is kept in check – not too aggressively sweet. Tamped down to provide much more of a classic Margaux style but with lots of pleasure. Very cool indeed. " 17.5 Jancis Robinson
Chateau La Fleur de Bouard, Lalande de Pomerol
$61 per bottle ($672 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
“Lalande de Pomerol is owned and made by Hubert de Bouard of Chateau Angélus.
The 2009 La Fleur de Bouard (made from yields of 45 hectoliters per hectare; 13.5% alcohol) is a Merlot-based wine with brilliant purity, abundant black cherry, plum, and boysenberry fruit, extraordinary density, decent acids, and high tannins. This full-bodied, concentrated, impressively endowed 2009 should age nicely for 10-15 years. At a recent tasting of the 2000 vintage, I was reminded of how great this estate’s luxury cuvee can be. It was off the charts in terms of richness and personality.” 91-93 Robert Parker
“Supersilky and round, with lovely berry, licorice and black chocolate character. Full and gorgeous. Like it.’ 92-95 Wine Spectator
Chateau Fonroque, Saint-Emilion
$57 per bottle ($624 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
“I agree with Alain Moueix that this is the greatest Fonroque he has ever made. From one of the few bio-dynamically farmed vineyards in St.-Emilion, this 2009 exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as a big, crisp, precise nose of forest floor, black and red fruits, crushed rocks, and earth. Dense, muscular, and masculine, this rich, full-bodied, deep, impressively endowed effort will benefit from 5-7 years of cellaring, and should drink well for 25+.” 91-93 Robert Parker
“A balanced and pretty young red, with plum, berry and light vanilla aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, yet harmonious and silky. “ 89-92 Wine Spectator
Clos Puy Arnaud, Castillon-Cotes de Bordeaux
$49 per bottle ($528 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
“Beautifully poised and elegant wine. Long and linear in style. Pure, expressive fruit. Fine tannins. Minerally freshness on the finish. Drink 2013-2020. 16.5 Decanter
“From a bio-dynamically farmed vineyard run with exceptional attention to detail, this 2009 had not finished malolactic fermentation when I tasted it, so expect future tasting notes to reveal more body and depth. Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc cropped at 15 hectoliters per hectare, and a natural alcohol of 14.25%, a dense purple color is accompanied by notes of chocolate, roasted herbs, creme de cassis, and charcoal. The wine is deep, full, and promising, but also painfully backward and ferocious because it was still in malolactic.” 89-91 + Robert Parker
Chateau La tour de Mons, Margaux
$37 per bottle ($399 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
“Bright blackberry and sweet currant aromas follow through to a full body, silky and refined,
with an excellent density and a long, long finish. Solid and polished. Best ever from here?” 92-
95 points Wine Spectator
“Dense colour, big concentrated blackcurrant fruit, robust yet lifted, very good northern
Margaux. Drink 2014-20” 16+ points Decanter
Chateau Phelan-Segur, Saint Estephe
$69 per bottle ($756 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
Deep aromas of crushed blackberries and fresh herbs. Full-bodied, with round and soft tannins and a polished texture on the finish. Rich and structured. Could be best ever from here. 90-93 Wine Spectator
Like many of the top 2009s, Phelan-Segur is a huge, full-bodied effort with massive fruit as well as good freshness, precision, and elegance. This is all rather paradoxical given previous great vintages that either lean toward cooler vintage characteristics or hot ones. This 2009 possesses both styles. It exhibits lots of mulberry, boysenberry, and crushed, jammy black fruits, abundant tannin, medium to full body, an opulent mouthfeel, and enough structure to evolve for two decades or more. This is a sleeper of the vintage. 90-92 Robert Parker
SWEET Whites:
Chateau Suduiraut, Sauternes 375ml
$82 per bottle ($912 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
“One of the outstanding successes of the 2009 vintage, this may surpass the superlative 2007.
It has a more understated nose at the moment, but is very well defined with honey, white
peach, orange peel and crushed stones. The palate has a viscous entry, is very well balanced,
very powerful with great depth and effervescent minerality. Layers of botrytis layer across the
mellifluous finish that is beautifully defined and sensuous. Fabulous.” 97-99 Wine Advocate
“Big and rich and bold and overwhelming almost. A bit of spice and so much sugar! This
deserves very high points for its combination of sweetness and purity. Great weight. Really very
good indeed.” 18.5 Jancis Robertson MW
"Pear and lemon pie aromas and flavors. Full and powerful, with lots of sweet fruit and a long,
spicy finish. Racy, layered and beautiful." 94-97 James Suckling, Wine Spectator
Chateau Guiraud, Sauternes (375ml)
$56 per bottle ($605 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
"The 2009 Guiraud is very tight on the nose, taking time to unfurl, with notes of apricot, peach,
a touch of honeysuckle and quince. Good definition. The palate is impressive: tightly coiled,
honeyed fruit, very fine acidity, linear at first then fanning out across the finish with notes of
dried apricot, nectarine, a touch of almond and a faint hint of spice. With good length and
unctuous on the finish, this Guiraud is impossible to ignore." 94-96 Robert Parker
"Interesting nose with a bit of an edge - really appetising as well as very sweet. I failed to spit
this one - always a good sign. Very long and a good combination of structure, acidity and very
ripe fruit. Tightly laced even if not the sweetest. Interesting smokiness on the nose. Drink 2018-
2035."18, Jancis Robinson
“Great pure noble rot aromas (apricot, mango), huge body, huge liquor, monumental but silky
and supremely elegant, immense length, a great classic of the vintage in preparation and not at
all very far from Yquem level, as are some other first growths too.” 18.5, Decanter
Chateau Doisy Daene, Sauternes (375ml)
$44 per bottle ($480 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
"Denis Dubourdieu has provided one of the genuine stars of the vintage with the Chateau Doisy-Daene,
two, if you count his Extravagance. This has a very fragrant nose with apple blossom, lime leaf and a
touch of honey. Very fresh and lifted...spring-like. The palate is very well balanced, not a powerful
Sauternes but ethereally poised and focused, skipping blithely to an animated pear, honeysuckle and
apricot finish. Very pretty, very complete and very outstanding." 96-98 points, Neal Martin
"Streak of green to the pale gold. Rich, lip-smacking and satisfying on the nose. Very big and bold, like pear juice fermented by a wizard. Lovely stuff. Lots of bracing structure as well as all the richness. Very
long." 18 points, Jancis Robinson
Chateau Filhot, Sauternes (375ml)
$26 per bottle ($288 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
“Shows some botrytis spice and dried fruit character on the nose. Full-bodied, very sweet and
thick, with a dense, almost syrupy finish. Excellent for Filhot.” 89-92 Wine Spectator.
"A slightly green streak in the gold. Nice tingle. Sweet, somehow 'liquid gold' nose. Very big and
bold. But without much definition and finesse at the moment. Still, it should please people, and
may not need that long to do so. Molten. Just a bit of jagged acidity at the moment. Drink 2016
- 2030". 16.5 Jancis Robertson
Chateau Rieussec, Sauternes (375ml)
$82 per bottle ($912 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
“The minerality and stoniness really comes through on the nose of this Rieussec, more than the 2007. The palate is very well balanced with superb acidity, real tension, steely with great precision with notes of apricot, white peach and honey on the beautifully defined finish. Probably the best Rieussec since the astounding 2001.” 95-97 Neal Martin
“Massive, with great transformed level of alcohol, useful when the sugar content is so high too, amonument of a wine, but a wait of 10 years at least will be necessary to do justice to its majestic power.” 18 Decanter
Chateau Rabaud Promis, Sauternes (375ml)
$42 per bottle ($468 unbroken case) - SOLD OUT
“This is initially very muted on the nose, but it unfurls seductively with subtle, perfumed aromas of lime leaf, white peach, fresh apricot and touches of white flowers: very pretty and well defined. The palate is beautifully balanced, so pure and succinct with wonderful precision towards the vibrant, white peach and apricot finish. This is a wonderful Sauternes and one of their best wines in recent years.” 94-96 Neil Martin
"Super rich and unctuous, not as disciplined by the barrel as others, excellent acidity, necessary for a very long ageing, long, intense, promising." 17.5 Decanter
