2006 Burgundy Clearance

Bouchard Meursault Charmes 2006

$175 shelf price / $129.99 offer price

Bright straw-yellow. Expressive but fairly oaky aromas of peach, apple, hazelnut, vanilla and spicy oak.. Fat and lush, but with a restrained sweetness to the broad, juicy flavors of lemon, apple, pear and flowers. Quite forward but not heavy. Finishes with an almost dusty, tannic quality from the vanillin oak component. This is excellent but the wood element is very noticeable today. STEPHEN TANZER

Bouchard en Remilly Chassagne 2006

$195 shelf price / $139.99 offer price

Bouchard Beaune Greves L’Enfant Jesus 2006

$235 shelf price / $169.99 offer price

Interestingly, Prost elected to serve this last, which means after the Clos de Bèze and I must say that it did not suffer unduly despite coming after a string of grands crus. A complex, fresh and layered nose of red berry fruits, spice and earth merges gracefully into rich, full, sweet and intense red cherry-infused flavors that are vibrant and unusually powerful while wrapped in a focused, mouth coating and superbly well balanced finish brimming with dry extract. A wine that will age for a long time. BURGHOUND

Bouchard Meursault Perrieres 2006

$195 shelf price / $139.99 offer price

A stunningly pure and elegant nose of gorgeously scented white rose and green apple that also offers up subtle stone notes that continue onto the brilliantly delineated and almost pungently mineral middle weight flavors that are a study in class, subtlety and grace. There is an intensity and refinement here that allow everything to remain in perfect proportion on the chiseled and crystalline finish. A 'wow' wine. BURGHOUND

Bouchard Corton Charlemagne 2006

$325 shelf price / $239.99 offer price

A reserved, indeed even reluctant nose of fresh and stony green fruit and citrus aromas that offer real depth leads to precise, minerally and exceptionally powerful full-bodied flavors that possess huge amounts of dry extract on the hugely long finish. This is still sorting itself out but the quality of the raw materials is impeccable and it possesses impressive potential, which will require at least a decade to realize. One of the finest examples from this appellation in the 2006 vintage. BURGHOUND

Bouchard Meursault Les Clous 2006

$95 shelf price / $69.99 offer price

This offers a small step up in aromatic purity and refinement with a beautifully elegant and airy mix of orchard fruit, nuts and acacia blossom that introduces rich, full and sweet flavors that retain a fine sense of detail on the strikingly intense, mineral suffused finish that is even longer than the preceding wine. Recommended. BURGHOUND

Blain Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet Caillerets 2006

$130 shelf price / $89.99 offer price

The aromatic profile is superbly elegant with its pure nose of white flower, lemon rind and hint of rosemary that merges into rich, full and racy flavors that possess obvious minerality, all delivered with outstanding intensity and obvious class together with that lovely quality of underlying tension. This is arguably the most refined vineyard in all of Chassagne and this '06 certainly upholds admirably that argument. BURGHOUND

Blain Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot 2006

$125 shelf price / $89.99 offer price

White orchard fruit aromas, especially peach and pear, introduce rich, full and obviously muscular flavors that possess good detail and punch and this too is unusually fine relative to its usual robust flavor profile and borderline rustic character and while this is certainly not a wine of finesse, neither does it lack a certain refinement. The only nit is a touch of finishing warmth. Worth a look. BURGHOUND

Blain Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet Boudriotte 2006

$125 shelf price / $89.99 offer price

Here the nose is even more floral and amply laced with citrus notes that complement the citrusy, rich and nicely full-bodied flavors that possess good energy and surprisingly good detail on the admirably long finish. It's rare when a Boudriotte is more elegant than a Clos St. Jean but here is one such example. BURGHOUND
