What an amazing price for an estate-grown red from Saint Emilion. This 10ha estate has been owned by the Brun family since 1571!
The 10ha vineyard (with 30yo vines), is in the north-west of the appellation and enjoys a southerly exposition that helps consistent ripeness. It's almost unbelievable that for this price, you can buy a hand-picked, single estate, well made and carefully aged Bordeaux from such a prestigious area, for UNDER $40!
This is 80% merlot and 20% cabernet sauvignon, in a ripe and quite supple style. Yet it possesses some blood / iodine character with cassis, earth, fresh berries and spice undertones. It shows well, the suppleness and almost "Burgundian" perfume that led some old wine merchants to jokingly say that St. Emilion was "half way between the Medoc and Burgundy". The Randall's team
