If there were ever a red wine ideally suited to an Aussie summer, Beaujolais would be a top contender. This latest vintage from Chateau du Bluizard is, as famed winemaker Georges Duboeuf states, "the best vintage of my lifetime". Made from 100% hand picked, bush-vine gamay, this shows complex aromas of red cherry, raspberry and blood plum characters alongside spicy earthyness and rustic charm. The palate is defined by bright light fruit characters, raisin toast, earthy characters and grilled meats. A step above your "run of the mill" beaujolais villages, this wine has well defined fruit notes with savoury, earthy and 'funky' characters in the background. Served slightly chilled, this is a great red on those warmer nights.
