Here is a great example of the Bize style. The old vines and clean, low-yielding, perfect fruit allow 100% whole bunches to be used. The stems add a certain "Friars Balsam, sappy, dried underbrush" complexity with ample fruit, as well as more structure and less pretty/fresh berry nuances than the Bourgeots above, however as a wine to keep for 10 years, it's a classic. It has power, concentration, succulence and class way above its station. Randall.
... a very precise and refined example of this lieux à dit this year, delivering a fine, red fruity nose of currants, cherries, bonfires, stony soil tones and a touch of venison in the works. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and really very soil-driven, with a fine core, ripe, chewy tannins and lovely length and grip on the focused and tangy finish. This will need a couple more years than the Bourgeots to blossom, but should prove to be another excellent example of the vintage. 2022-2050.
