This is a totally unexpected, interesting and amazingly great wine. It is made from the ancient grape nascetta, it makes a wild and exotic, ripe and structured white that has my mind racing for comparisons to a fantasy wine that is a viognier with less oilyness, or a ripe rousanne with more fruit and structure. It has grapey citrus and peach notes but also vanilla pod and apricot nuances, all carried by ample structure, slight firmness and a ripe 14% alcohol.
This is a rare grape that was brought back from near oblivion by Cogno. Due to it being an “unauthorised” varietal (until recently), it was first cheekily labelled “A Nascetta” so the grape name is celebrated.
