Chablis experienced a great growing season in 2008. The grapes were perfectly ripe but due to the cool and steady temperatures the acidity was protected giving the wines excellent flavour, sugar and phenolic ripeness along with a near-perfect acid level and the classic and oft mentioned "goût de pierre à fusil" ("taste of flint”). Consequently, the wines have great balance and vitality, especially the famed Grand Crus, which represent the top 100ha of the 5000ha Chablis vignoble.
Les Clos, the most renowned Grand Cru, is a 26ha site with Louis and Anne Moreau owing 3.2 ha. In 2008 this made only 500 cases, in the old scale equivalent to 1 ton/acre! So due to a combination of VERY low yields, old vines (they were all planted between 1958 and 68) plus the inherent concentration and focus of the vintage, truly amazing wines resulted.
The 2008 has just been released and will be due in Australia in late August. We have secured a small allocation and expect that it will sell out very quickly at this price!
