For the first time in Australia!
Sourced from a 50+ year old vineyard planted on pure Limestone, the stunning Jaspis Pinot Noir has been compared to the likes of 1er Cru Gevrey-Chambertin (although the humble Ziereisens would probably eschew such a lofty comparison!) 2015 was an exceptional year in Baden and here Hanspeter has harnessed the power and energy of the warmer conditions and tempered with subtlety and finesse. Aged for 21 months in 225l barriques (20% new), the Jaspis Spatburgunder offers delicate floral/red-fruit aromas and a concentrated pallet of sour cherries and truffle with a saline/mineral framework.
"One of the great Pinots of Germany" Lobenbergs Good Wines
18/20 points! Deep ruby colour with purple rim. Aromas of blackberries, plums and cherries put together a generous offering of fruit, complemented by gentle notes of coffee and smoky bacon. Almost the only sign of oak aging comes once again in a fine smoky expression, while the rich fruit is well offset by a marked salty minerality. Inky and peppery nuances add further highlights; a touch of tobacco adds a subtle savoury notion to the finish. The young tannins are well absorbed by a truly rich texture.
