This wine takes the pinot in pinot gris very seriously, it’s a little like white Burg, more savoury than fruity. It’s also like no other pinot gris, matured in large casks with lots of lees and nice firmness from pressing with stems, “we don’t want boring, we don’t want a fat wine like viognier either” says Hanspeter.
93 points! Swish of pink/amber to the hue of the wine, made from pinot gris from Germany. About 20 hours skin contact and the same again in the press, with stems included. Fantastic! It’s wonderfully fragrant, strawberries, pear, floral scents. The palate brings it home. Fine chalky tannins, mouthwatering acidity, layers of fruit flavour. Feels firm, puckering, structured, exotic and so very delicious. Biting into a dry skinned, ripe pear, but edgy with freshness. Super. Mike Bennie, Wine Front, 23 December 2016.
