This is matured in large old barrels stored in the “old” cellar dug in the 8th century! This is from older vines and it has a 5% portion of quevre skin/stem aged “orange” wine in the blend also.
It’s a little wilder and has more texture than the Heugumber from the same producer.
92 points! Spends time in barrel. Chasselas gets some complexity (a grape that has so much potential and interest!). From a dedicated, fascinating producer in Baden. Sniff of smoke and wet slate over white peach, nectarine aromas. Shows a sniff of green herb/briar too. Concentration and quiet power in the palate. Layers of flavour, structure, fine chalk-like texture. Finishes with mineral water-like minerality to close. Lovely stuff. Mike Bennie, Wine Front, 23 Dec 2016.
