Yes! A great German shiraz. This is not “Barossa”, but it is a little “northern Rhoneish” with blue fruits, charcuterie, rust, peppercorn and Asian spice. The complex filigree of flavour is embedded in a medium fleshy frame with generosity and poise. Aged in 1200lt casks and barriques, of which 20% are new.
91 points! German syrah spends 18 months in 25% new barriques, the rest older barrels of mixed formats, including 1200 litre barrels. Unfiltered before bottling. Tobacco, cedar, forest berries, sniff of game meat. Something brooding and complex lies here. Freshness in the palate, sheets of fine tannin, some earthy character, some wet slate-like granitic mineral character. Finishes firm. It’s got personality. Mike Bennie, Wine Front, 23rd Dec 2016.]
